Description
Over 1.2 million hazardous materials shipments take place every day in the United States. 63% of those shipments take place by highway, which affects every motorist on the road. Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations outlines the requirements necessary to ensure those hazardous shipments arrive at their destination in a safe and proper manner. This course is designed to provide an overview of the US DOT Hazardous Materials Regulations with an emphasis on hazardous materials registration, shipping papers, emergency response information, markings, labels, placards, and safe loading requirements, to ensure everyone is doing their part in effecting safety on our roadways.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER Sgt. Glenn Goode, Sergeant, Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Glenn Goode currently leads the Iowa State Patrol-Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit’s hazardous materials program, a position that he has held since July of 2023. Prior to that, he served as team leader for Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement's hazardous materials unit for two years, and as a hazardous materials specialist for nine years. He is an associate General Hazardous Materials and Cargo Tank Inspection instructor for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, he instructs Hazardous Materials Awareness courses at multiple Iowa law enforcement training academies, and he’s very passionate about the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
